Briefly: what this site is, what not to expect from it and the rules the two of us deal with each other by. A couple of minutes of reading.

What this site is

This is my personal site. It describes what I do: interviews with prisoners and with people who crossed over to Ukraine’s side, searching for the missing, the exchange fund, a record of publications about me.

This is not a state service, not the official channel of any agency and not a registered organization. I stand behind this site alone.

By opening the site or writing to me, you agree with what is written on this page.

If you write to me in a messenger or on social media, the same applies. The platforms have their own rules, and on my own channel I announce rules too — how the chat under an episode is run, for example. They work where they are announced and they do not cancel what is written here.

How far you can trust what is written here

I try to keep everything accurate. The figures on these pages are counted automatically from my own channel and playlists, and the record of mentions is assembled from publications with dates and links to the source.

At the same time this site is journalistic and personal material, not an official statement and not legal advice. For official requests there are state bodies; a page on this site does not replace them.

The data updates automatically, and sometimes an external source hands back an incomplete picture — then a figure can differ from the real one. Where that is known in advance, I say so on the page itself.

If you write to me

Do write. I read and answer myself, usually within a day, though sometimes the queue stretches out.

Getting in touch creates no obligations and gives no guarantees. I cannot promise that a person will be found, that they will end up on an exchange list or that an exchange will happen by any particular date.

I have no influence on the exchange queue and cannot speed it up: the lists are drawn up by state bodies, not by me.

This work is free.

And what you send is not a commodity. I do not sell this information, do not hand it to advertisers and do not pass it to anyone except those who can help at your own request. I keep it as carefully as I know how; the details are in the Privacy Policy.

I may not answer, or may not take a request on — without explaining why. This is not a service with obligations but my own personal work, and there are as many hours in my day as in anybody’s.

About fraudsters — please read this, it matters

I never ask for money for a search, for a place on an exchange list, for “speeding things up” or for a meeting. Never, and never through anyone else.

If someone writes to you in my name and asks for a transfer, that is a fraudster. Do not send anything. Check the contact against the “Contacts” page on this site: anything that is not there is not me.

Extracting money in somebody else’s name is a criminal offense, and in Ukraine it is punishable. If a person like that has written to you, send me the correspondence: I pass such cases to law enforcement.

The only way to support this work is the open Monobank link on the “Work” page. It is voluntary and it goes on filming, travel and equipment.

What you must not do

No threats — against me, against my family or against the people being discussed. No burying me in spam. No using contact with me for fraud, recruitment or harassment. No sending other people’s personal data without the reason that made you decide to send it at all.

If that happens, I stop answering and block the person — with no explanations and no correspondence about it.

Materials

The videos, photographs and texts on this site are my work. Quoting and linking is fine and welcome: a short quotation with a link to the source is normal practice, and I am glad of it.

Reprinting whole pages, re-uploading my videos to other channels or passing my material off as your own is not.

The record of mentions links to other people’s publications: the rights to those belong to the outlets. The names and logos of organizations are mentioned so that it is clear who is meant, and they belong to their owners.

If my work or my name is used around these rules, I defend my rights under Ukrainian law, in the manner it prescribes.

External links

Some links lead to other sites — YouTube, Telegram, media outlets, state projects. I am not responsible for what is on them or for their rules.

Liability

The site works as is. It can be temporarily unavailable, and a figure can be a day out of date. I am not responsible for decisions taken on the basis of what is read here, or for any damage from using the site — as far as the law allows.

This is one person’s personal project, not a service with obligations. I do not promise that the site will always be available, that every figure on it is accurate at any given moment or that it will suit your purpose. Something may change or disappear without warning.

Changes and disputes

These terms may change; the edition date is at the top of the page. If you go on using the site, that means you agree with the new edition.

I live and work in Ukraine, and this work is done from here. Ukrainian law applies to the site, to our correspondence and to everything written here; disputes are heard by a Ukrainian court. If you have a complaint, write to me first at apostle@karpenko.net. Almost everything is settled by talking, and that is how I prefer it.
